The most northern town on the island of Newfoundland, it's one of the best spots to view icebergs and whales in the world. In 1900, Dr. Wilfred Grenfell chose St. Anthony as the site for a hospital to serve northern Newfoundland and eventually moved the headquarters of the International Grenfell Association there. Near St. Anthony is L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, the only authenticated Viking site in North America, where Leif Ericson landed and lived over 1,000 years ago. This rich cultural wonder also offers hiking trails, museums, galleries and a wilderness lodge with everything from fly fishing to nature photo safaris.
